Interaction of turbulence and magnetic islands

چکیده
We have investigated the role of turbulence for two problems, the effect of the polarization current on the NTM and the effect of diamagnetic drifts on mode penetration. For the NTM problem, we find that the fluctuations exert a drag force on the island that results in a stabilizing slowdown in the propagation velocity. For the mode penetration problem, we have investigated the influence of polarization and diamagnetic rotation in the error field penetration threshold by comparing the results of electromagnetic simulations using a two-fluid model with theory. For rotation velocities between the ion and electron diamagnetic velocity, drift-waves are excited and the solution becomes delocalized. We find that the existing linear theories that neglect the drift wave radiation effect overestimate the penetration threshold.

Nonlinear dynamics of magnetic islands imbedded in small-scale turbulence.
The nonlinear dynamics of magnetic tearing islands imbedded in a pressure gradient driven turbulence is investigated numerically in a reduced magnetohydrodynamic model. The study reveals regimes where the linear and nonlinear phases of the tearing instability are controlled by the properties of the pressure gradient. In these regimes, the interplay between the pressure and the magnetic flux det...
متن کاملPlasma flows and fluctuations with magnetic islands in the edge of J-TEXT tokamak
The first comprehensive measurements of plasma flows and fluctuations nearby static magnetic islands driven by resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) are presented. These experiments were performed using multiple Langmuir probe arrays in the edge plasmas of the J-TEXT tokamak. The effects of controlled variations of the island size and location are explored. This study aims to understand the in...
متن کاملNonlinear dynamics of magnetic islands in presence of interchange turbulence
In this work, we study the interaction between a tearing mode and a pressure gradient instability (resistive interchange) by solving reduced MHD equations numerically. The numerical study shows existence of regimes where thetearing instability is driven by the pressure gradient. An interplay between the pressure and the magnetic flux controls the dynamics of the saturated state. A secondary ins...
متن کاملParticle acceleration and reconnection in the solar wind
An emerging paradigm for the dissipation of magnetic turbulence in the supersonic solar wind is via localized quasi2D small-scale magnetic island reconnection processes. An advection-diffusion transport equation for a nearly isotropic particle distribution describes particle transport and energization in a region of interacting magnetic islands [1; 2]. The dominant charged particle energization...
متن کاملBlood Flow Simulation in an Aorta with a mild coarctation Using Magnetic Resonance Angiography and Finite Volume Method
Coarctation of the aorta is one of the five main congenital cardiovascular failures, accounting for 6–8 percent of these failures. This research aimed to simulate the blood flow of a seventeen-year-old male teen with a mild coarctation at one-third of his aorta's descending branch. The simulation was performed by extracting the domain and the input pulsatile velocity signal as the boundary cond...
